ThinnkBotics Competes at the 2026 WRO USA Affiliate Cup

ThinnkBotics was proud to participate in the 2026 World Robot Olympiad (WRO) USA Affiliate Cup, held from August 7–9, 2026, at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois.
This year, five teams from ThinnkBotics took on the challenge, competing in the RoboMission Elementary and Junior categories. After weeks of preparation, robot building, programming, testing, and problem-solving, our students had the opportunity to put their skills to the test in a competitive environment alongside other young robotics enthusiasts.
RoboMinds Secures 5th Place!
A special congratulations goes to Team RoboMinds, which delivered an impressive performance and secured 5th place in its category.
The achievement reflects the team’s dedication, technical skills, teamwork, and ability to perform under competition pressure. Throughout the event, students had to analyze challenges, troubleshoot their robots, make quick adjustments, and continuously improve their strategy.
We are extremely proud of the RoboMinds team for representing ThinnkBotics with confidence and determination.
Five Teams Representing ThinnkBotics
While RoboMinds earned a strong 5th-place finish, we are equally proud of all five ThinnkBotics teams that participated: RoboMinds, CosmicCoders, TeamWorks, HonestKids, and Stardust Crusaders.
For many of our students, WRO was much more than a robotics competition. It was an opportunity to experience what happens when the robot they have designed and programmed must perform under real competition conditions.
Students experienced firsthand that robotics is not always about getting everything right on the first attempt. A small change in robot movement, sensor readings, mechanical design, or programming logic can make a significant difference.
They learned to observe, test, troubleshoot, adapt, and try again.
That process is exactly what makes competitive robotics such a valuable learning experience.
More Than Building a Robot
At ThinnkBotics, our goal in participating in competitions such as WRO goes beyond rankings and trophies.
Competition gives students an opportunity to develop skills that extend far beyond robotics, including:
- Problem-solving and logical thinking
- Robot design and engineering
- Programming and debugging
- Teamwork and communication
- Time management
- Strategic thinking
- Working under pressure
- Learning from mistakes and improving quickly
Students also had the opportunity to see how other teams approached the same challenges. Observing different robot designs, programming strategies, and problem-solving techniques created another valuable layer of learning that is difficult to reproduce in a regular classroom environment.
Learning From Every Run
One of the most important lessons in robotics is that every run provides information.
A successful run tells students what is working. An unsuccessful run gives them an opportunity to investigate what went wrong and determine how it can be improved.
Throughout the competition, our students experienced both.
They made adjustments, discussed strategies with their teammates, solved unexpected problems, and continued moving forward. These experiences help students build not only stronger technical skills but also confidence, patience, and resilience.

We are incredibly proud of every student who represented ThinnkBotics at the 2026 WRO USA Affiliate Cup.
Preparing for a competition requires significant commitment. Our students spent many hours designing, programming, testing, rebuilding, and practicing with their robots before arriving in Illinois.
Taking five teams to the competition was an exciting milestone for ThinnkBotics, and seeing RoboMinds finish in 5th place made the experience even more memorable.
Most importantly, every team returned with something valuable: new ideas, greater experience, stronger technical skills, and a better understanding of competitive robotics.
The Journey Continues
Competitions like WRO provide students with a unique opportunity to transform what they learn in class into a real-world engineering challenge.
At ThinnkBotics, we believe that robotics and coding are best learned by doing—building something, testing it, discovering problems, finding solutions, and continuously improving.
The 2026 WRO USA Affiliate Cup was another important step in that journey for our students.
